Mehetabelle

Does my memory serve me correctly that mother use to always call our car Mehetabelle? I remember her coaching the car to keep going, hang in there and not let us down in a tough spot. It didn't matter which car we currently had, this was just the name.

Well, checking Google (what DiD we DO before Google?) I discovered that this name is Hebrew in origin. While it cites both male and female usage of the name (male: favoured of God, God is doing well), it appears in 1st Chronicles as the the name of the wife of King Hadar of Edom. It also states that this was a common Puritan name.

What is the name of your car? I named one of Pat's vehicles Jerry. I think it was her Ford pick-up. She wasn't impressed. Hah!

  1. I hope that was Jeri with an I, because I was always told that you name your cars girl names. I forget the reason, but that being said, my Ranger was named Beefcake (a nickname a friend called me in high school...)my Lancer doesn't have a name right now. Every time I tried to name her, she would experience some kind of mechanical problem, so I decided not to worry about it. :)

  2. All of my cars have had names. My little blue first car I had was Daisey. Then my first little red car was little red. My Pontiac was Rosie. Now my cute PT Cruiser is....drum roll please...Mehetabelle. We talked about this name and Grandma 2 years ago at the reuion. I did not remember her calling the cars that, but I love the name and it seems to fit my cute car, so I went with it.
